Some kids inherently love school. As soon as their alarm clock goes off, they bounce out of bed, get dressed and are ready to head out the door before the coffee has even finished brewing.
That was NOT me.
I hated school growing up. My school was not a magical, fun, or even enjoyable experience for me. In fact, my morning started with stomach aches every single day. It wasn't easy for me, and I never felt confident or successful. My days were filled with anxiety and lots of tears.
So, why, if my experience was less-than-stellar, would I want to dedicate my life to education?
THE ANSWER:
So, that's what I did. I went on to earn my undergrad in Early Childhood Education and a Masters of Education. Yet, my education didn't stop on graduation day - I went on to become an Orton Gillingham tutor and spend hundreds of hours each year researching and learning about how we can best help our children grow.
For more than 15 years, I have worked with hundreds of students with varying ability levels. I can honestly say that during my time in the classroom, I was able to make most of my students feel a sense of JOY coming to school each morning. I LOVED changing lives as a teacher but was limited to only about 20 students each year. I got goosebumps during 1:1 tutoring sessions when the lightbulb clicked, but even that only allowed for one student at a time (and there are only so many hours in a day). I want to help as many students as possible while also experiencing the parenting journey with their parents. That's why this website isn't just teaching videos; it's tips, resources and more, all in one place.
As a parent of two creative, cheerful, and determined little girls, I see firsthand how that feeling of joy is critical for our children's overall wellbeing. I've watched my girls learn new things, laugh, feel capable... but also shut down and hit a wall (literally) at times. I understand how frustrating it can be.
As parents, we are all clueless. (That parenting manual missed my birthing delivery room, too.) We ask ourselves:
Am I doing the right thing?
Can my child be successful?
Is my child confident?
Yes. Yes. And Yes. I’m going to help you build independent, successful, and confident children. This is what I am passionate about and I am so excited to share this with you.
